Platelet-rich plasma being prepared at Glow by Phoebe

Regenerative

Hair Restoration with PRP in Brooklyn, NY

A course of scalp injections using your own growth factors, for thinning hair and widening partings. $400 a session, or four for $1,500.

What It Does

Support the follicles you still have.

PRP for hair uses the same principle as PRP for skin. A small blood sample is spun down to concentrate the platelet layer, and that concentrate is injected across the thinning areas of the scalp.

The aim is to support follicles that are miniaturising but still alive. That is an important distinction: PRP works on thinning, not on scalp that has been completely bald for years. Being honest about which one you have is the difference between a worthwhile course and wasted money.

Best suited to

  • Early to moderate thinning, where hair is finer rather than absent
  • A parting that has widened over the last year or two
  • Thinning at the temples or crown that is still covered by fine hair
  • Post-partum or stress-related shedding that has not fully recovered
  • Supporting a medical hair treatment you are already on

If your thinning is advanced, we will tell you at the consultation rather than sell you a course that will not deliver.

    The Visit

    What to expect

    01

    Assessment

We look at the pattern and density, photograph the areas so there is a baseline to compare against, and take a medical history.

    02

    Draw and spin

A small blood sample from your arm goes into the centrifuge while your scalp is numbed. About 15 minutes.

    03

    Injection

A grid of shallow injections across the thinning areas. Around 20 minutes. You can wash your hair the next morning.

    Before & After

How to prepare, and what to do after

Scalp PRP is a course, not a single appointment. Getting the small things right each time is what makes the course worth doing.

    Before your visit

    • Come with clean, dry hair and no styling product, oil or dry shampoo.
    • Drink plenty of water the day before and the morning of — we take a small blood draw and it is easier when you are well hydrated.
    • Eat beforehand, and skip alcohol for 24 hours.
    • If your doctor is happy for you to pause them, stop aspirin and fish oil for about a week. Never stop prescribed blood thinners without asking the doctor who prescribed them.
    • Bring a list of anything you are already using on your scalp or taking for hair loss.

    After your treatment

    • Do not wash your scalp for 24 hours, and use only a mild shampoo for the first few days.
    • Tenderness and a little tightness across the scalp for a day or two is normal.
    • No swimming, sauna, steam or heavy sweating for 48 hours.
    • No colouring, bleaching or chemical treatments for at least three days.
    • Do not expect anything visible for the first couple of months. Hair responds slowly, and the change shows across the course rather than after one session.

General guidance only. The instructions Phoebe gives you at your appointment take precedence over anything on this page.

    Questions

    Common questions

When would I see a difference?

Reduced shedding is usually the first thing people notice, at around two months. Visible density changes take longer — three to six months, because hair grows slowly. This is why we photograph at baseline; memory is unreliable over that timescale.

    Does it work for everyone?

No. Results vary a great deal and depend on the cause of the thinning, how long it has been going on and your general health. It works best on early, active thinning. We will give you a realistic view at the consultation, including when the answer is that it is unlikely to help.

    How painful is it?

The scalp is sensitive, so we numb it first. Most people find it manageable — a series of quick stings. It is over in about 20 minutes and there is usually some tenderness that evening.

    Is there downtime?

Very little. Expect a tender, slightly swollen scalp for a day. Skip washing, hair products, swimming and heavy exercise for 24 hours.

Do I have to keep having it?

To hold a result, yes — typically two to three maintenance sessions a year after the initial course. PRP supports follicles; it does not permanently change the underlying pattern.

    Who should not have it?

It is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with an active scalp infection, with certain blood disorders or platelet conditions, or while on blood thinners. Some causes of hair loss need a doctor rather than a med spa, and we will say so.
